Halibut Warrior

Just my .02 but me and Dick use a modified crawler harness and slow death rig that only requires a half night crawler. Bait goes farther with this method and it is deadly. We can do show and tell after the next meeting in a group therepy session if you want.

Would like to see your set up Joe, thanks for offering!  I've used it a few time & it's an interesting technique so here's a couple links:  http://youtu.be/__viZ5Qxri4   http://www.mustad.no/www2010/products/product-news/a-perspective-on-perfection

Hey, did Dick give up on his Lindy rigs?

Halibut Warrior

As a matter of fact.....he did. He took Wally G and co. to Oak Bay last July and all he did was troll, and became a believer. I explained my method in the tackle section.

I know it's a little early, but just a reminder for everyone going to go on this trip. Remeber to go to Utah game and fish and buy your license. It's 8 bucks and good for 365 days. You will get an immediate downloadable licence, and mailed the more permanent one within a week.

Good reminder Champ!  You can do it online or at a local retailer but I'd recommend getting it online.  Like Dave mentioned, if you get it online you will have the chance to download & print your license right then but they will also mail you a hard copy.  You're buying the "365 Day Reciprocal Permit Lake Powell AZ RESIDENT" for, as Dave also mentioned, $8.  If you want a 2 pole license, buy the "365 Day NonRes Second Pole Fishing Permit" for $15.  Remember that this is a "Reciprocal Permit" so you must also have a valid AZ fishing license.  Otherwise a Utah Non Res 7-day license is $32.

Thanks Champ & hope you didn't mind me adding to your post.....

I called Richard at Liar's Corner this morning. These are his prices on the crawlers.
$70 per flat which should give 42 dozen crawlers each.
He said he would need at least two weeks notice to put in an order like we are talking about. So next thing I guess is to figure out the amount we need. I'm thinking 4 flats for everyone. One flat per trailer, and one left over for anyone camping. Let me know....

I've never taken this route but sounds like we'll need to figure out best route.  Don't know if it'll be fixed by then....  From the AZ Game and Fish Feb 28th report:
If you're planning on heading up to Page or Lake Powell, here's some additional information from the Arizona Department of Transportation on the US 89 closure. On the morning of Feb. 20, an apparent landslide ripped through a section of the highway along a mountain slope about 25 miles south of Page, buckling more than 150 of the roadway and tearing the pavement up in six-foot-high sections. The significant roadway damage forced ADOT to close a 23-mile-long stretch of the highway (at mileposts 523-546) between the US 89A junction near Bitter Springs to the State Route 98 junction near Page.

ADOT says that US 89 will be closed for the immediate future as geotechnical experts and ADOT's engineers examine the mountain slope and roadbed to determine the exact cause of the damage, and what steps are required to reconstruct the roadway and get it back into shape for travelers. At this time, there is no timetable for reopening the highway. Detours are in place for motorists traveling to and from Page and southern Utah. These routes are US 160 and SR 98 directly to and from Page, and US 89A and US 89 through Kanab, Utah. More information on the detours can be found at http://azdot.gov/CCPartnerships/News/NRel3404.asp. For up-to-date information on the US 89 closure, visit www.azdot.gov/us89.

The US 89 closure at Bitter Springs (US 89A junction to the North Rim) is not an issue for us.  Our route of travel has us turning off US 89 a few miles before the closure onto US 160 towards Tuba City.  Here's a map link:  http://mapq.st/Z71qXa  You'll need to zoom in a bit.

We can, however, expect a little additional traffic between the Tuba City turnoff (US 160) & the junction of AZ 98 east of Tuba City as this is the detour route(s) around the road closure.

This road closure sure does suck for those going to Page, not to mention for the Page area in general.  It'll be quite a while before it's fixed.  Thought i read on Wayne's Words that the travel time to Page has increased by 50min - 1 hour due to the detours?  Unless you know the shortcuts thru the reservation that is!
