Hey all, they are doing the C.A.S.T. For Kids event again this year, Saturday, March 29th, 2025 at Lake Pleasant. As of today, just a couple weeks after registration opened, they have 58 kids registered (max 60, then waitlist of 10 more).  They need volunteers on shore or boat to make it happen as they usually have more interest from kids than boaters. AZCA member Steve Seivert has done it 6 years and hope to make this year his 7th. And AZCA member Dave Thompson has done it as well as I think a few other members have before.  You are not limited to fishing for crappie - you can do whatever you think might be best.  One guy last year went somewhere and caught 30-something bluegill.

There are a lot of bass fishermen who volunteer and only a few crappie guys. I know a Matt Shura was surprised we caught a crappie and was pretty cool to catch them. I hope some of you can make this event.  I'm going to try to as well.

Please go here for the link to register: https://castforkids.org/event/lakepleasant/

Please don't delay in registering as late registration makes it very difficult for the event organizers and families to plan and run the event.

This is a C.A.S.T. for Kids event designed to provide children with disabilities, ages 6 – 18, the opportunity to enjoy a quality outdoor recreational experience through the sport of fishing. Take to the water with C.A.S.T. for an unforgettable morning of fishing and boating!

Quote #1: "It made my heart happy to be giving back to families, kids with special needs love doing activities just like everyone else and events like this make that a possibility for families that are either struggling or are afraid to do it alone." – Shore Volunteer, Lake Pleasant

Quote #2: "The C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation is wonderful! The event that is put on every year in Arizona (Lake Pleasant) is outstanding – from beginning to end. A big THANK YOU to all who took part (e.g, volunteers, organizers, boat captains, sponsors) in making this event an AMAZING experience!!!! My son looks forward to it every year!"- Parent of Participant, Lake Pleasant

I registered for it as a boater.  Maybe see some of you there.

From Terry B. Johnson, Event Coordinator for CFK at Lake Pleasant AZ:

Hi!

I need your help, urgently. As of 1000 on Feb 21, only 17 Boat Captains and 3 Co-Captains have registered. We have a full complement of 60 registered kids, with several more on the WAITLIST. The 60 slots were filled in just three weeks!

Historically, many folks sign-up late as Boat Captains, for lots of reasons. But I've never been this far off target this late in the game. I'm feeling the pressure of expanding participation to 60 kids from 40. C.A.S.T. for Kids was reluctant to do that but based on the past few years they agreed.

Scott Petersen and Dave Hagan are contacting friends, acquaintances, clubs, etc. to recruit more boaters. But your help doing that is much needed. We need bassboats, pontoon boats, and pleasure boats that are 17' long or longer, Coast Guard safe, with a big motor appropriate to boat size. Glass, metal, whatever as long as it's not inflatable or built from adobe. Borrowed boats work as well as owned boats.

An upside of early registration was they will get the size t-shirt that they listed. From here out, it will be first come, first served for t-shirts.

Thx for your past, present, and future participation. Without YOUR help, this event doesn't float. Any help finding more boaters would be much appreciated.
