Last post by OneBlade - December 05, 2024, 10:30 AM
Want to win something while helping out local Arizona fishermen? As you know, not everyone is on Facebook and another great location to learn and share crappie fishing information, lake reports, buy/sell crappie gear, etc. is here in the Arizona Crappie Association forum. To enter the drawing, please login on this site and post in this thread. Feel free to introduce yourself here as well where you're from and how you typically crappie fish, etc. By posting here, you'll be provided 1 entry in the giveaway. You can also earn an additional 2 entries in the giveaway by posting your own crappie fishing report in one of the Lake Reports boards.

Then, on February 1st, 2025, we'll randomly select from the entries and the winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to Mudshark Marine (Brian Bernard). I personally just used him for a trolling motor install, installing proper breakers and fuse panels for my electronics, and motor maintenance and I recommend him for your boating needs.

If you've posted in forum, you'll need to register first. Please note the registration activation email can take 2-5 minutes to arrive, and might be in your Spam folder so check there and be sure and click the link to finish your registration.  Please, if you run into any problems email azcrappieassociation@gmail.com or text/call Matt at 480-474-7955.

All Other Lakes / December 2024 Fishing Report
Last post by OneBlade - December 05, 2024, 10:16 AM
December 2024 Crappie Fishing Report

The following report was provided by AZ Crappie Sniper Guide Service. If you're interested in a guided trip for crappie contact Randy Howton at 623-640-9193 and randyhowton@yahoo.com or Randy Blachley at 480-202-2911 and randyhuntsazhomes@gmail.com

Alamo Lake

Crappie fishing is still on fire with fish in all depths. You may find crappie 2ft down fishing in 60ft of water but also may find them lower down at different depths. You'll find schools but also singles and doubles roaming in open water. Randy has had success catching them using AZ Lead Works (AZCA member Matthew Picklesimer) 1/8oz chartreuse jig heads along with Get Out And Fish  (Richard Johnson) black and blue chartreuse (BBC) minnow or twin tail. Use your electronics to find and chase those crappie, then cast jigs to them and then keep reeling!

Bartlett Lake

There are lots of smaller crappie that can be caught everywhere from just 15ft of water up in the river to 40ft on the tops of trees/structure. Some of the bigger crappie are also starting to show up can be found in open water schools and you can use your side imaging to find them. Cast jigs to these crappie and you can also try bare hook with minnows when fishing tree tops or structure.

Lake Pleasant

Lake Pleasant crappie fishing is slow, but still producing some smaller crappie in the 10-12" size, thanks to the successful spawn 2 years ago. Try casting jigs in trees in the 20-30ft range and if that's slow, try minnows using Aberdene hook and a split shot. The crappie are tight to the trees.

Roosevelt Lake

Find tree tops in the 20-25ft range and keep moving until you find a tree with fish.  The bigger crappie are biting and very aggressive. Try using jigs but a minnow setup with Aberdeen hook and split shot may be more productive when fishing the tops of trees.

Other/Urban Lakes

Do you fish the urban lakes or other Arizona lakes for crappie? If so, please email azcrappieassociation@gmail.com so we can include your report here.

Want to include your crappie fishing report, YouTube video, or fishing related event in this Newsletter or as an event posted on azcrappie.com? Or do you have a good article or video with useful crappie fishing information you think Arizona crappie fishermen would like? Email azcrappieassociation@gmail.com with the info.

General Discussion / Air bladder Crappie
Last post by FishMan - December 02, 2024, 07:18 PM
I tend to release the majority of the fish I catch. A technique I've been using lately to get air bladder inflated fish to survive without fizzing them, is something I used to do in the saltwater. I have a short bass poll with a 3oz lead weight, and a light wire crappie hook bent "almost" straight. Poke the hook in soft spot of mount and slowly "deploy" the fish to the bottom.  1-2 good pops and he's off and will stay down without issues. This week, every fish we released swam down instantly, however we kept 4 in the Livewell for about 30 minutes to get a "group" photo...those fish were alive, but couldn't dive. Sent them back with the "Deploy" method and they all stayed down without issues. Good luck and share if you have a different technique.

Bartlett / Bartlett Sat Nov 30, 2024

Fished Bartlett this past Saturday, from safe light untill around 2:00. Launched at Yellow Cliffs, and fished several areas from up river to the Orange Groves area. Most fish were tight to trees/Bushes in 30-20 FOW. Boated between 75-80 total crappie, hand full of bass and a few bluegills. Most caught on a variety of plastics and a 1/32 jig head, with the smaller plastics seeming to do better early morning, then as the day warmed up the larger plastics worked better. Most fish between the 8"-10" range with just enough 12"+ to keep it interesting. ALL fish were safely returned to be caught another day.

For Sale/Want / Re: Free Minnows
Last post by Onetime - November 25, 2024, 05:22 PM
Well, it was a good idea to post here for freebie minnows so they can be used anyway. Hard to even give them away at the lake these days.

Sorry to hear about your boat. Is it motor-gremlins or didja go all Dukes-of-Hazard and jump something?
