not good, they had the golden algae hit the salt river for 20 miles above Roosevelt lake and game and fish thought it would stay contained to the river :banghead: now g and f is reporting dead mostly gizzard shad dying all over the lake, they suspect thread fin are also dying but being eaten by birds quickly. Game and fish says there is a chance the golden algae may spread and attack game fish next (crappie are very susceptible to golden algae) :(
Pray for quick cooling temps and water temperatures going down quickly that is about the only thing that slows the algae down, remember several years ago golden algae about wiped out Apache and canyon lake fishery :dontknow:
That was bad at Apache and Canyon. Let's hope it kills a bunch of gizzard shad before it cools down and the crappie aren't affected.
Yeah, I read that online the other day. +1 on the cooler temps! Sucks big time & hope things stabilize not just for Roosevelt, but the entire Salt River Lake system as a whole.

First the San Carlos situation & now this. Guess we all will see what's going on in a couple weeks at BHCC. I'm a glass half full guy but, IF things go from bad to worse that'll leave what - Bartlett & Alamo. Hoping for the best....

We fished yesterday morning on the Tonto end and caught 1 crappie long line trolling and 3 slow verticle trolling. All I saw was one dead 4" gizzard shad in Long Gulch..........Art
