Fished Roosevelt Sunday and Monday mornings from sunup until about noon. We concentrated on the East end of the lake both days and it was slow. 4 crappie and 4 bass each day. Crappies were huge though (I'll try to post a photo). Caught them in 15-20 ft. of water and they were holding around 10 ft. Water is a bit murky so I was unable to see if beds were present. BUT, while trolling cranks for bass back to the ramp at Windy Hill we passed Grapevine ramp (which is open if you want to make the hellish climb to park your truck) and there they were. The graph was COVERED with fish icons. It was after noon by then and we couldn't get them to bite. They are so close to the ramp this would be a great place to night fish with a light.
Great first post and report, bunhead! Thanks for sharing.
A very encouraging report from Roosevelt! Thanks for the post. When you said Grapevine ramp is "open" - do you mean the ramp is in the water?
That is a monster! I hope to see some like that at Spring Crappie Fest!
nice fish what was the water temp :dontknow:
thanks
Nice work, Rosey is a tough lake. I may have to give it shot on Saturday.
Grapevine is in the water and open to launch but you have to park your truck way up the hill. Sorry, I didn't notice the water temp.

think it is 210 steps up that stupid walkway going up to parking lot :angry4: remember walking it in my chest waders during duck season years ago thinking what idiot designed this launch ramp :banghead:
Kasey and I were bass fishing in the middle of the lake Monday and water temps were in the 58's at 7 a.m. and 64's when we loaded up around 2 sp.m. and yes, Kasey smoked me!!! We saw no visible bass or crappie in the shallows ..........Art
Thanks Art, wow lake warming up slowwwwwww
Thanks for the report bunhead. Nice fish!
Hi Art! Long time no see! It is Richie Scheuermann. I told my dad Hi for you. We really are in debt to you. You guided us fishing about 20 years ago and have been addicted ever since. You taught us how to bass fish in Arizona and how to crappie fish. We will forever be thankful. We went out to Roosevelt last Saturday 3/14/15. We fished the grapevine salt area from 6:30-2. We caught 3 huge female crappie. We were fishing in 18 feet of water with little white jig heads with white grub and tipped with a minnow. We were fishing about 8-10 feet deep. My dad went out on Wednesday of this week hopping he could get them from the shore. No luck. He talked to a boat that was fishing the same way we did but they were using purple grubs and slip bobbers and fishing a little shallower at like 3-6 feet. We are going to go back out Saturday. We are trying to time the spawn for once. Last couple years we have been clueless. Last great shallow crappie spawn trip was at San Carlos before it dried up >:( Hope this helps someone catch some good eaters. Maybe I will see you out there Saturday.
Nice slabs. Welcome!
