Title: Seasonal Restrictions at Roosevelt Lake for Bald Eagle Breeding
Post by: OneBlade on December 03, 2025, 06:42 AM
From the Arizona Game & Fish Department (AZGFD) on December 2, 2025: Seasonal restrictions in place as bald eagle breeding begins

For Roosevelt Lake: The closure area is quite small a circular area around the nest on the Tonto end and right now that area is out of water and only is really surrounded with water when the lake is near full. It is not a complete closure of the north/west Tonto end like previous years. At least that's what I gathered with help from Bruce (Fishless).

From the email from AZGFD: Tonto Creek inlet to Roosevelt Lake is closed to vehicle and foot entry within 1,000 feet of the nest on land and to watercraft within 300 feet on water from Dec. 1 to June 30. Contact the Tonto National Forest, Tonto Basin Ranger District, at 602-225-5395.

During the 2025 breeding season, 83 young hatched, and 71 reached the important milestone of their first flight, known as fledging.

Help conserve and protect bald eagles, and conservation research and recovery efforts, by reporting any harassment or shooting of bald eagles. Call AZGFD's Operation Game Thief hotline at 800-352-0700, or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service law enforcement at 480-967-7900.
