A few of us risked the rainy weather forecast and hit Lake Mary July 17-19. We camped this year near Mormon Lake area and only a 20 minute drive or so to Lake Mary each morning. At night we ventured into the town (lodges, RV/camper area, bar/grill, pizza joint) for food and drink. Weather actually turned out really well - Friday it was raining a bit when we arrived around noon but tapered off and great weather all day Friday. Saturday it stormed all around us and by the dam it may have rained some but up in the narrows we just had a few cases of wind and minimal rain. It finally started raining Sat night after we got back to camp, under the safety of cousinlll's camper shade. Both days we caught lots of walleye fishing worms primarily, but we also caught a few northern pike casting to shore. We also found and targeted crappie finding more than any other year so that was fun. Found fish all over the lake but LiveScope helped improve our catches at least for the walleye and crappie. Pike you can catch just casting to shore trying different areas. No yellow perch caught this trip. Water level is low and there is a significant rock/dirt area you use at the boat ramp (front and back tires of truck were off pavement at one point) but doable. The surprise this year were lack of crawdads. We had 2 traps out with hot dogs at different depths but the same place as prior years and only caught a few crawdads. That's never happened given prior years the traps were overfilled. Great trip and hope we can continue this tradition every year - hopefully we can find those crawdads in future years.
