The word is all the cement ramps are now closed at bartlett lake, you can launch off the beach area down below. If it is quiet you can launch with 2 wheel drive it lake is busy and the launch area gets real wet from people pulling out their trailers you will possibly need 4x4. That area drops off quick which is nice for launching but can be a pain for reloading the boat.
good luck
Thx Bruce
Campin-Nana and I fished Saturday ,2/11 ( another story) and found launching very difficult---rocks,mud etc--With the lake low---very low--safety has become a serious issue. Several boats accustomed to traveling fast in certain areas continue to do so. With the small channel, I had several close calls yesterday and many ,many heavy wakes due to excessive speed.
One Nitro Bass Boat, estimating 55-60 mph passed between another crappie "troller" and me---trolling about 30 feet apart--realizing he screwed up,he swerved, ended up going the wrong way on the wrong side of the lake , resulting in a massive "T-Bone" with another boat-----result--- 2 children air lifted to the hospital, one adult sent by ambulance--head injuries !!!
I transported one passenger, from the guilty boat, to safety ( Blood all over my new rug !!)--my point--he told me the reckless driver is a natural abuser of water safety and just recently had his boat repaired from an accident at Pleasant---
My message---do not hesitate to report violators----the 2 children in this accident will probably be OK --but--certainly --they could have been KILLED!!--Be careful out there-- ( Both boats impounded by the sheriff department for evidence)
Good god Dave, that is terrible. Good thing you were there to help.
WOW!! Dave that was a hell of a day of fishing
way to step up and help at the scene
it is unbelievable how many idiots there are out on our lakes and it is not just wake boats or pleasure craft even fishermen can be stupid
hopefully when you unwind you have time to post a report
thanks again for stepping up and helping others
Wow that's a frightening story. Sure hope everyone hears about this one and learns rom it. Sounds like they all were lucky. Way to step up and help Dave.
Unreal some of the s__t that happens on the water.
WOW. Some ahloes just don't get it (saftey) than something like this happens
That's a shame that it happened and luckily the kids were ok!!! That guilty driver doesn't deserve to have a boat any more, being a repeat offender like that. Who knows what could happen next time if he were allowed back out there!!
I've told TNF etc for years that when the lake is this low that the no wake buoys should be moved closer to the yellow cliffs area (just before that bend to turn west) not just because the channel is so narrow but because of all the trees sticking up and just below the water surface just waiting for a skier to impale themselves
You want to think that the laws of natural selection would take care of idiots like that but they always seem to hurt innocent folks along the way.
Hopefully this will weigh heavily on the guy's conscience and he will learn from this.
thats a scary day in iowa, as we minnesnowtans say. because we live in a desert theres not much water. frankly when our reservoirs get low there should be an engine size limit or more practically a speed limit, say 20 mph in channels. glad you guys are ok. time to go to rosey?
