From James Rollins, the AZCA tournament director:

We had 8 teams compete this year. We had a beautiful start and launched just after 6:00 am. We all had to endure some windy conditions mid morning but almost everyone was on fish.

The win this year goes to team Crappietiers (Florin Nesiu & Andrew Nesiu) with a weight of 10.37 lbs they also had the Wild Willy Big Crappie of 1.77 lbs. They won $160 plus a $50 Scheels gift card. 2nd place was captured by David Toyne with 9.92 lbs winning him $96 plus a $50 Scheels gift card, 3rd place went to Team Gotcha (JT Butler & Matthew Picklesimer) with 9.43 lbs, winning them $64 plus a $75 Scheels gift card.

Rounding out the rest of the field;
8.66 lbs - AZ Slab Hunters (James N Mary Rollins & Gilbert Seballos)
8.49 lbs - 4 guys in a little boat (Tommy Rufrano, Larry Larson & Frank Kroeher)
8.07 lbs - No Ski (Scott Wisniewski & Josh Wisniewski)
7.42 lbs - One Blade (Matt Rokusek & Bill Poppert)

Rounding out field was Team Slab Maxxers (Nicholas Mason & Lukas Laramio) who competed in their first Arizona Crappie Association tournament.

Congratulations to all the winners and hope to see everyone next year.

The Spring Crappie Fest will be at Alamo again next year, April 3, 2027, and we plan to have the large group site next year.

Alamo Lake rustic site D101 is available for this weekend as the last one in the D loop in case you want to make a last minute decision and come up.  Some full hookup sites also available in the C loop.  Hope to see you all there.  https://azstateparks.com/reserve/#alamo-lake/camping

Unfortunately, we were not able to pull together the resources this year to do the fish fry potluck.  Hopefully we can return this long standing tradition for the next event.

This Saturday, March 28th, is the Arizona Crappie Association's Spring Crappie Fest, held at Alamo Lake and open to the public: https://azcrappie.com/events-and-tournaments/spring-crappie-fest/.

Many AZCA members will be camping din the D loop but we'll have members in all of the campgrounds. Book your campsite ASAP as they are filling up fast (https://azstateparks.com/reserve/#alamo-lake/camping).

Saturday is the tournament and tournament director James Rollins will take entries starting Wednesday up through 5:30am on the tournament day.  The Let's Talk Fishing team has also planned a crappie tournament and anglers are open to enter one or both tournaments if they'd like.  See the tournament director note for more details:  https://azcrappie.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/2026_SCF_TournamentDirectorNote-1.pdf.

After the tournament winners are announced and trophies presented, we'll hold the open meeting where prospects interesting in joining the AZCA can attend and become members.  We'll then hold our big raffle giving out over $600 worth of prizes.  Bring cash to the weigh-in so you can participate and win some amazing prizes!!

Unfortunately, we were unable to pull together the resources this year to hold the fish fry potluck, so you are all on your own for Saturday dinner.  Hopefully we can return this long standing tradition for the next event.

The AZCA officers and members hope to see you all there!

San Carlos / San Carlos 3/19/2026
Last post by OneBlade - March 19, 2026, 06:56 PM
San Carlos did not disappoint.  My son was off on spring break and found a day he had free to get up there once more before the lake likely dries up this summer.  Coordinated with Patrick and we caravaned up there early.  At the boat ramp 6:30am already a line - wow.  Livescope lit up with lots of fish ranging from loners to 2s, 3s, 4s, to balls of baitfish.  We caught most of ours on the 16ft poles with double-rig minnows, but did catch a few targeting them with Livescope.  Caught them everywhere and saw others catching as well.  Depth in the middle maybe 20-25ft. Kept 20 for the freezer and my dad and let the rest go.

Bartlett / SRP to start releases from Hor...
Last post by Fishless - March 18, 2026, 04:58 PM
SRP plans to release water from the Horseshoe Dam spillway into the Verde River to Bartlett Lake beginning approximately at 9:00 am Monday, March 23, 2026, at a rate of approximately 2,000 cubic feet per second. The release is expected to continue for about 2 weeks, and Bartlett Lake will rise between 1 to 2 feet per day during this period. Do not park or camp next to the water and pay attention to lake level changes.
