Night Fishing with Lights

Hello, I'm new to this site but think it's great as I love fishing for Crappies.  With it getting hot now, I want to use lights and fish at night, do I go to the deeper cliff areas or fish near trees in water 12 to 20 feet deep?  Thanks and I look forward to hearing some crappie wisdom.
