Someone should hit San Carlos here before the spring and see how fishing is going there. The crappie were last stocked May 2023 (http://forum.azcrappie.com/index.php/topic,4974.0.html) so might be a tad small still but would be interesting to hear about lake conditions, where to buy permit, etc.

Salmon Stud

I am not privy to the stocking size, what are the length expectations of these fish to this point?

Anyone know if live forage, shad/minnows were also planted to support these fish..?

Where to buy permit: I am planning to purchase here unless told otherwise ------- www.sancarlosrecreationwildlife.com/fishing-permits

As of 2018, these guys sold permits, but no idea if they do now 6 years later.  I'd suggest you call them in advance to check, and confirm hours.  Let us know what you find out.

Crappie were stocked March 2023 and were likely 3" or so as I believe they were from the same source AZGFD gets crappie stockings from (Mr Fish from Arkansas).  Depending on food/baitfish, they can grow well in Arizona but I had never heard of stocking shad/minnows ever.  No idea how well or not they've been eating there. Also not sure if those 3" are able to produce eggs/spawn in that following spring 2024 but they should by this spring.  It would only be a guess, but suspect crappie are 10'-12".  We suggest to return any crappie under 10" and so so at our tournaments.

Let us know how your trip goes including boat ramp, water level, etc. Good luck.
