AZCA monthly meeting at Bartlett today, good turnout! Sparkchaser & I fished Cat Bay, only managed 2 early fish then nada for the rest of the day. Both fish caught fishing vertical w/ minnow.
LLL
Thanks for the post LLL. I fished all day in Cat Bay mostly long line trolling with jig, 2" grub, and minnow and caught nada.
I looked out of style long line trolling with my poles off the back. Lots of others with long poles off the front fishing vertical. IAMMAC gave me a couple liters to try out - thanks. That was enough to motivate me to go out tomorrow and buy the rest of the gear to try this method out next trip. Always good to have other options out there to try.
Fishing that way definately brings fish into the boat. Its worth the time to tie a bunch of these up before you get to the water if,and or, you break a rig off.
Nice day and a great turn out.
Me and Hawk managed only 6 Crappie, 1 nice bass and a dink catfish.
Me and Willie had 5 slabs 3 bass and 1 cat, It was a great day on the water, wish the bite was a bit better. It was cool seeing everyone in their rigs fishing close up.
I managed one Crappie and my buddy Rich got 7. Don't people know it's not right to out fish the guy who owns the boat! O-well, I got 4 bass also up to 2lbs. Spider rigged all day in cat bay tipping the trees with the dropshot rig.
Before you pull the trigger on new gear look around and see what you like, I like more of a stiff trolling pole by B&M, you may like a more limp pole.

Sorry, I had to.
that's what I told Piscolli when we went, not nice to out fish the guide :crybaby2: :crybaby2: he pulled his blind fold up and stuck his tongue out at me,(that was a long walk back to the main ramp from the flats wasn't it Billy :bootyshake: :bootyshake:
Matt, +100 on the Hi-Tec rod holders & BnM Rods.
Guy that makes the Hi-Tec stuff is a Crappie.com member & will customize if need be. Good guy to deal with! Get the "Extreme" model if you're also gonna use them as rod holders to long line troll around trees. Do a search on Crappie.com for more info & pics of setups.
As for the BnM rods, I have 2 of the 12' PST (Pro Staff Trolling) rods for spider rigging & 2 of the 12' Buck's Jig rods for night fishing. The PST's will have more of a backbone for fishing around the trees. Great customer service at BnM, broke both my Buck's rod tips at Alamo last year fighting the trees, which is why I switched to the PST's. Called them up on a Monday & had them in hand on Thursday. I like BnM rods as you can get replacement parts. Haven't graduated to the 14' poles yet. Oh, and I don't know about the other guys but I have my PST reels spooled with Suffix 832 braid to a snap swivel. From there, I have pre made either C & C rigs or the drop shot type rigs that I just snap on. Fluorocarbon rigs for open water & 832 to fish in da trees.
Best thing to do to start is to check out other member's setups. See how Mac, Brian or even my set up, for example, have their boats rigged. You can then get a better idea on how you want your boat setup.
And this spider rig thing takes patience! Some guys have it & some guys think it's much to slow.....
The key to spider rigging is watching your lines. You will miss more bites than you get if your not paying attention. Sometimes the pole barely twitches or the line may start to move slightly or as I like to say it starts to dance than u probably have a slab taking ur minna. I have been using the 9', 11' & 12' Wally Marshall's for about 3 years and they have held up pretty well.
Sorry I missed the good times at the meeting.
The boat is under repair seats-flooring .
Just didn't want to drive out there with out the boat.
the boat the boat that's he talks about!!
Looked everybody had fun.
see you guys soon!!

He's not kidding either.
Bruce, try that Omega, Me-N-Rats fishes them and loves them. The Zebco Delta is a slightly cheaper model, one less bearing and no extra spool but is great as well. They both come in a 02 size (6# line, 2 line pick ups) or a 03 size (10# line, 3 line pick ups).

Glad your back Mr. G.
My buddy went to Bartlet today and pulled 14 slabs out of the trees we were fishing by. They're still in there! Slow pulling minnows just above the tree tops.
Hey Billy funny you should mention that, went to BPS last night, they were out of the omega in the box >:( :( so I bought the combo reel, kid never said anything about a #2 or #3 :banghead: :banghead: and both spools the extra one and the one on the reel are lined with that crappy red cajon line that feels like stiff rope :crybaby2: :dontknow: so I have to remove that crap and rewind with 6lb clear reflection before I can use it
dang wish you were still working there :crybaby2: :crybaby2: and Brandon had gone home for the day :o
your issue with the 02 omega is it doesnt hold enough line. now casting its gunna be ok but when im long linin i sometimes have the whole reel of line deployed. the 03 doesnt have that issue.
don't need to much to cast ;D
is the omega 2 silver and the 3 black? looking at them online, (going to take the combo back to BPS) and the 3 is the slightly larger reel?
