Title: Bartlett 12/15/2012
Post by: on the rocks on December 17, 2012, 08:36 AM
Well Marvin and I decided to test the old theroy fish like to bite in the rain. So Saturday morning headed to Bartlett after picking up minnow @ D.R. Baits (thank you Wadefisherman this is the second time we have used this guy) we pulled into the main launch and there were two bass boats with the guys standing outside their trucks trying to decide if it was worth launching they never did. We used the bathroom facilities then headed over to Bartlett Flats to launch. On the water @ 7:30 trolling 2 mph with crank baits picked up a keeper about a 1/2 hr in but wind and waves were killing the trolling motor battery and we also wanted to slow troll with jigs and minnows so we switched it up. About 9:00 we picked up a double on red road runners no grub but tipped with minnow. Of course we thought oh baby game on. Well we went over that area several more times and no luck. School had obviously moved and were no where to be found. Marvin picked up another about 10:30 By 11:30 we were both damn wet, cold and hungry so packed it up and off the water at noon. Not one other boat on the water the whole morning so no bouy jumpers or lake lice. One boat did show up as we were trolling back to the launch site. Nice to have a private lake but if it has to be that cold and wet not sure it is worth it. Bottom line is the last 3 times we have gone to Bartlett the lake has given up 4 crappie each and everytime. So still not sure if they like to bite in the rain but did feel like a genius at 9 when we had 3 bites in 30 seconds

Wow, you guys are troopers going out in that weather. Glad you got a couple. Hope there was no break dancing going on at the launch site when you tried to recover the boat.... :headbang: I think I'm going to try and hook up with LLL on Friday at Rosey to see if we can get on them. Piscolli, you want to lay a wager on the game this weekend....Go Hawks :bootyshake:

If your don't mind Rocks, I'd like to piggy back on your post.......

Decided to try Bartlett today (Monday) testing the theory that the Crappie bite would be on a couple days after the front came thru & high pressure takes over again.  The Crappie should be hungry, don't ya think!  Guess I should have joined you guys in da rain as I didn't get a single bite!  To be fair, don't know if the lack of a single bite was because I didn't get minnows or that I truly SUCK at this game!!  :crybaby2: :banghead: :angry4: :violent1: :dontknow:

Got to da lake around 7am with air temps around 35* & light to no wind to speak of.  Fog was hanging near the water.  Fished cat bay most of the day & didn't see another boat until noon.  Arriving at Cat Bay, noticed that they have removed the buoy line showing the drop off into the river channel/shelf where all da trees are.  The Desert Rat buoy & the next two buoys uplake have been either removed or moved to other areas.

Motored around the area looking to graph Crappie for a bit, did find one school over 30 ft of water.  Was able to chase them for a bit vertically trolling jigs & slab daddys with no joy.  Maybe minnows would of helped  :icon_scratch:  An hour later I lost da school & decided to switch things up by long lining jigs in & near the trees I had GPS'ed from previous trips.  Didn't graph much of anything after that early school.

Decided to explore the lake a bit to see if I could find fish.  Trolled the dam area along with one area opposite the dam where I had caught Crappie a few years ago.  Gave up around 3pm & headed home frustrated but glad I got out giving it a college try.  Guess I should of went to Saguaro & spooned for yellows...

Hats off to you guys for getting out there in da rain.  Hard core right there - unlike those wimpy bass guys

Trading voice/emails with Hawk so we haven't narrowed it down yet.  Tentative date is to leave for Windy Hill the day after Christmas so it's Wednesday thru Saturday.  Will post shortly for those interested in joining us.
