Title: I need some old boat solution/help !!!

I have an inboard mercruiser, the button that lets my shifterrelease out of nuetral has broken. It is a 1986 piece and I cant find a replacement. Is there a way to bypass the safety notch and "not need" the button? If I do replace it do I need to replace the cables too? I believe I have it "rigged" to work for the weekend, but I could use some advice. :wtf:

I'm an I/O guy also, 89 Merc 3.0 liter with an Alpha outdrive. You should be able to find that part. Call Bergeron Engineering on Country Club in Mesa.
