Never had problems with trail master tires but Discount tire said they were having problems after they went to trail master after carlisle tires were supposed to be having problems. Carlisle supposedly cleaned up their manufacturing problems, (think they may still have some quality problems) :banghead:
This is a 6 month old carlisle tire with lots of tread left on it, coming down carefree on the way home from Pleasant with proper tire pressure and thought I saw a chunk of tire fly off but was not sure, maybe something on the road already, wrong as I approached the freeway more pieces started to fly off :angry4: at the same time guy came up beside me and let me know had been loosing pieces for about a 1/2 mile. Always good to carry a spare tire.
This is the second carlisle tire I have had problems with since switching to them when I wore out the trail master tires and what Discount said is now the better tire :dontknow: :angry4:
Only good thing was it happened before I got on I-17 and was doing 65mph in traffic :c029:
It's my opinion that all trailer tires suck these days!! I also made the switch to Carlisle from Towmasters a while ago after having issues with them. Decided from then on that I'll always carry a second spare. I'm in the process of getting a second spare tire/spindle carrier made for my boat trailer. What also sucks is not having confidence in todays trailers and that you have to carry tools & spare parts for that "just in case". Well, at least I do......... :banghead:
I had bad luck with Carlisle before they supposedly fixed their issues. Also had a set that ran for 4 yrs. Too inconsistent. Will not buy another one from them. Discount didn't have the Marathons when I needed them last so I bought the Greenballs or Towmasters (2yrs ?? ago) and they seem to be holding up OK. It's been enough months to warrant changing them and I don't know what to buy now. Seems that even the Marathons are having issues. :dontknow:
Fastest I have been in and out of discount in years :sign0098: 20 mins and now I get to get the jack out and change it out, didn't use to get warranty on my trailer tires but have been for a couple years now.
Had some fun with the salesman he met me at the door told him I was having problems with balance on the tire was hopping some on the road way, wondering if they could re-balance the tire he said sure no problem then he looked inside the bed of the truck and saw the tire and said, man I don't know if we have weights that big to balance this tire he called it partial tread separation, I said ya partial because I caught it quick before the entire tread came off :o
Had ablowout on freeway with green ball tires didnt do any damage to trailer or boat discount pro rated it even though i didnt purchase from them came on the trailer. they replaced with a carlisle, net time i was going to lake the other green ball was flat it was also separated just sitting in the carport. discount replaced it and the spare i was happy with 125 dollars for all three carlisles with warranty and balancing. hope they hold up.
Dang.......I have two pretty new Carlisle's from Discount on my rig. $150 + per tire you would think they would hold up.
I went to Carlisle last year, hope they hold up.
I totally agree with Larry ( CouisnLLL)----money will not buy a good solid trailer tire---
I have a tandem trailer, I carry 2 spares a good electric air pump and a Bible---
after my last trip to Bartlett, I now carry 2 (TWO) new Spare Batteries---another story :(------any more acquisitions, my wife said I good leave all my "stuff" home and just take the spares!!!!!
LOL - sucks that you have to carry an extra 1000 lbs in tools & spare parts
