Title: Powell trip 2015
Post by: Fish Hawk on December 27, 2014, 10:06 AM
Looking for departure date. 4-25 or 5-2. With the mud coming down last year the 4-25 date might have clearer water.

In the past we've always fished the last week in April until the first weekend in May - which this year is from Saturday, April 25th thru Saturday, May 2nd.

BUT, with that being said - SCF is the weekend before (Thurs, April 16th thru Sun, April 19th) so that'll be something the group may need to consider.  Should we move the Powell trip dates because of this?

So what's everybody's thoughts?  I know you guys have been "Polled" to death on various subjects but should we consider a poll for dates?

Thanks Bill for posting this.  You're one step ahead of me on posting this and the SCF dates........  :headbang:

Any idea if fishing gets better at Powell if we go into May?  What about weather/wind?  We drove up in snow last year!

Anymore discussion about this?  I know it's a ways off but we do need to start the planning process.  Who's in, out & thinking about it?

I'm in with a possible co-worker in my back seat. All depends on the dates, and if said co-worker can get time off to go. The date choice for me would be as we always have gone in the past.

Cool - should we make this the official date then?

Depart PHX on Saturday, May 2nd returning on Saturday, May 9th - 7 night stay w/ 6.5 days of fishing

If so, then the next step is to get the lodging taken care of.

I agree let's go with those dates and reserve lodging preferably the ones that don't have dead mice in the ovens.

I'm open to the option of inviting 2 friends (one with an appropriate boat) and having my own group......or joining an existing team looking for a 3rd or just a back seater. I'll bring the poker chips, my train whistle, keep the worms happy, fillet like a surgeon, and bring plenty of cash.  Please let me know if anyone is interested in allowing me to join them. This would be only a one year commitment because in 2016 I fully expect to be back on Wadefisheman's Lund. Feel free to text me directly to discuss. 623-687-4487.

The reference to "appropriate boat" was poking fun at myself......for those that have not seen my rig, 7 MPH just doesn't cut it when wanting to run 15 miles up lake.

Fishman I am awaiting response from Menrats as he is unsure about the trip.  If he's not in, I have an appropriate boat.

on the other hand fishman we run 15 miles one way when the fishing is just as good in about four spots within a mile of our launch, brians wall, the island just a quarter mile from launch, the shore straight across from the ramp just into bullfrog and the little island just across from the launch in bullfrog.

I'm still waiting on confirmation from my co worker, so I may be in need of a backseater. I'll try to get an answer within the next week.

Hopefully health issues will be solved this year, but most likely I am out for this trip. I will be happy to relieve anyone of extra Walleye fillets. For what it's worth Tom is a heck of a fisherman and all around great guy!

I sure hope so Brian!  Your presence is defiantly missed on the water locally but your Lake Powell expertise not to mention being a freakin great fisherman will be missed on this years trip.  It'll my goal this year to make sure you have Walleye for your freezer!

Don't worry Brian, I'll mark everyone's secret spots on my map and well crush them all next year. If it makes you feel better, I promise to sprint the boat ramp each day and have an extra beer in your name each night.

In my opinion, it's never to early to be discussing food. I would highly recomend that whoever brought the sliced lamb and gyro fixings 2 years ago repeat that meal again this year. I am still bragging about that dinner to anyone that will listen to me.

That was Tommy Rats wasn't it?  At his campsite that overlooked the lake & the sunset?  Couldn't get enough of that meal.  Always been great meals from everybody though......

I'd agree on the food part and really do agree on the gyros - damn good.  That was menrats.

Cousinlll, perhaps we can start a thread (perhaps pinned and unrepliable?) or use this one to start showing list of who is going, potentially going, etc.  Would allow us to start reserving cabins.  By the way, I have a coworker (Geoff) who sounds interested but I give him less than 50% of actually committing.

If and when you are ready to do meal planning, please start a thread and I don't mind owning that task.  I'll do it like last year giving group option to discuss if they like the group meals, timeframe, all days, etc.

The new guy comming with us Wally, seems a little excited. Just sent me a countdown clock, apparently we have 1 month and 27 days until the trip and he is now the proud owner of his Utah reciprocal license.
