Was going to post this a day or two from now but since Stevert brought it up.......
So here's what Dave & I talked about - I'll be leaving Ahwatukee at 0500 hrs on Saturday taking I-17 to Flagstaff. Think I'll drive thru town (instead of taking I-40) and stop at the Fry's for diesel fuel before stopping for breakfast.
Tradition has it that we stop at The Crown Railroad Café in Flagstaff ( http://www.thecrownrailroadcafes.com/ ). You can get there by either going thru town or taking the I-40 East exit from I-17 where you would then take the normal US 89/Page/Country Club Drive off of I-40. You'll have to back track a bit as you will need to go west on US 66/US 89 to get to the restaurant. Follow the directions in the link above. What are you thinking Dave - probably around 7am ish arrival?
Usually my last fuel stop is at the Chevron in Kayenta which is on your right just before your turn onto US 163 towards Monument Valley/Mexican Hat. Here's a google maps link of my travel route all the way to Hall's Crossing: https://goo.gl/maps/rZNBXaeFoxx
Larry, is there diesel available at Halls or Bullfrog?
My cousin is continuing on from Powell to Oregon - Washington and wanted to cross over at Bullfrog rather than backtracking.
Diesel pumps at Hall's Crossing unsure about Bullfrog. Would be nice for them if the ferry was running...
Thanks! He's checking on the ferry operating schedule.
Two good things about the Railroad Cafe'.....the Chicken Fried Steak and I get to blow my train whistle.
We will be leaving from Tommy's place (North East Mesa) at 5. That should get us to the restaurant between 7:30 and 8 after the gas stop.

That should work. I'll let you know what Marv and I are planning.
We plan to pull out of Mesa at 6:30. Ken and Suzanne are pulling a 5th wheel so they will be setting our pace. Stop at the Crown RailRoad Cafe for chicken fried steak and then driving on up. They may want to spend a few minutes in Monument Valley taking pix.
Larry, you guys might anticipate a slightly longer trip. I don't know what has happened but I think people that normally head to Flagstaff Friday afternoon/evening are getting tired of jammed up traffic and wrecks almost it seems daily up north of Table mesa road? but I have been fishing the river end of Pleasant on some Saturdays and I get off at table mesa road and this entire spring and I am on the road like at 5:10am and traffic this year has been unbelievably heavy :dontknow: by no means stop and go but about the time you set your cruise control I have to shut it off as traffic slows down in areas. Most of the time you travel at 5am and you set the cruise and go, even in town it is heavy.
Have a safe trip guys
Have fun guys
Were starting at 5:30 from Buckeye. Were going to eat at Mc'd in flag. See y'all on the road.
Have a safe and wonderful trip and remember those you have left behind :(. We will anxiously await your reports.
Marv and I plan to leave around 6:00 AM from Anthem. Honk if you see us on the side of the road . Plan to stop at the Crown Railroad at approx. 8:00 AM.
