Title: Lake Powell 2017!!
Post by: OneBlade on May 09, 2016, 08:33 PM
All right, Lake Powell 2016 was a blast as were the prior years.  All those in attendance made the trip extra fun.  What a great group of people.  For those who haven't gone, or haven't gone in awhile - I suggest you strongly consider the trip for next year.  Not sure you're up for a full week?  Make a partial week trip.  Not sure how to fish it?  No problem there are lots of members willing to help you prepare prior to the trip and the week of.  Not sure fishing will be good?  Look at the previous years tally's - fishing is always good!  Not sure you want to troll for walleye?  No big deal - several members go for smallmouth bass and stripers on occasion.  Not sure about your boat situation?  Put your name as interested in the trip and perhaps another will be looking for someone to ride backseat.  Not sure there's enough food there?  Ha ha, silly you the food every night is amazing.  Not sure you can afford it?  You may be surprised at the cost isn't that bad when you take into account splitting up the trailer costs, buying worms in bulk, carpooling, etc.

All that to say.... keep your plans firm on attending SCF and BHC.  Those are the best AZCrappie events held with most active members in attendance and we've been catching good crappie numbers at them lately.  But also include Lake Powell in your next year's planning.  Hope to see some of the members who have missed in previous years attend next year as well as some new faces.  You won't regret it.

Patti can't win the biggest walleye every year nor should Dave Sparkchaser keep winning the poker night!

This latest trip was a blast.  I'm guessing all of the previous trips measured up equally.  It's an amazing fishery and there are endless spots to fish.  This group managed to hit a bite that really didn't force us to move far or often.  Once we were up near that 110 marker, there were smallies and walleye to be had.

As far as the accommodations go , I've stayed in worse and they seem to work OK for everyone.  The food was fantastic .  The people in the group were all easy to be around for a week.  Ken and Susanne (Team Sandman's kinfolk from TX) fit in just right.  The weather cooperated for the most part.  The worms............we all learned a great deal about the worms thanks to Tommy's teachings...."take care of your worms and your worms will take care of you"......good words to live by.

I hope to attend next year.

Steve.

It was so great to see all teams working together, sharing techniques and fishing spots, not to mention helping each other with needed repairs or items needed. Great food and even better company. Thank you everyone for such an amazing time. I promise to take good care of your worms over the summer. They will be used appropriately and I will provide them with the opportunity to die with honor.
