Title: 2017 Lake Powell Meal Planning
Post by: OneBlade on March 18, 2017, 04:31 PM
All right, let's start some meal planning.  Take a look back at last year's meals they were exceptional.  Last year mealtime was 7pm and unless there is majority consensus to move that, I saw we stick with that time.  Saturday people arrive at different times so your meal on Saturday is on your own.  Need people to signup for Sunday through Friday evening meals where Friday evening is the fish fry.  Please be sure and save a bag of fillets to donate for the Friday fish fry.

** Update ** Every group doing a meal should supply plates, napkins, forks, etc. for their meal for the 20-25 people that will be eating.

Cousinlll and Stevert are both bringing an extra folding table.

This thread (http://forum.azcrappie.com/index.php/topic,3239.30.html) says there are 20 people - I assume everyone on that list is going and planning on having meals with everyone, correct?  Timbo and I are arriving Tuesday for dinner so only 18 to feed Sunday and Monday.

*******  MEALS LIST FOR 20 PEOPLE WITH MEALTIME 7:00PM ********

Saturday, April 29th - Arrival day with supper being your own responsibility

Sunday (sparkchaser & FishMan) -- Chili and cornbread

Monday (Stevert & Marv) -- They are bringing something.... don't know what, it's a surprise.

Tuesday (Cousinlll & Billy Ho) -- Cavatini w/ Garlic Bread, possibly a side salad & homemade limoncello

Wednesday (Sandman & PattiSue) -- Red beans, rice, and sausage

Thursday (Freshwater,  Wheathin, Tweeder) -- Ham & Scalloped Potatoes

Friday (OneBlade, Timbo, Mike, Debbie) -- Fish Fry, fried potatoes, baked beans, cole slaw/potato salad, maybe dessert

Saturday, May 6th - Leave for home!

It'll surely take a truck load of grub to feed all 20 peeps every evening!!

Billy Ho & I will take Tuesday evening serving our usual - Cavatini w/ Garlic Bread, possibly a side salad & homemade limoncello

Matt - I'll bring an extra folding table & I'll also get some Chinet Dinner Platters.  With the number of peeps going this year we might need to double up on the plates, bowl & utensils?

Good point Larry.

With 20 people, do we need to re-think our meal strategy? That's a lot of food to prepare. No big deal for my red beans, rice, and sausage but it may be a concern for others.

We'll take Wednesday night.

Regarding doubling up on plates, plasticware, napkins, etc, sure we can do that.  It's just a numbers thing if we want then 2 people can do it.  20 times 6 nights + 20% extra of plates, plasticware, and napkins.  Divide that into 2.  I updated the top post indicating we can have 2 people bring stuff for 3-4 meals and if 2 people do that then we won't have any shortage.

If everyone brought their own bowl, plate, silverware and glasses, all that we would need to worry about is napkins. Lots less trash.

Hmmm that may put Timbo and I in charge of the fish fry unless anyone else wants to give it a shot.

Sandman, can you bring another cast iron pan I can use as a second one on my camp stove?

Can Tommy Rats make it up for one night and promise to bring his sliced lamb and taziki sauce. Just saying, that would be nice. If not, Larry should make his Zitti And Garlic bread twice, and or provide lemon chello every night. Also, captain dave should make double pulled pork for daily on the water lunch. Ok, done ranting. Headding out for a run to allow me to eat like a madman in 6 weeks.

Looking for help on the fish fry whether that be bring sides (e.g. potato salad, baked beans, cornbread, etc.) or dessert.  Timbo and I can handle frying fish and french fries or hush puppies, but asking if Mike, Debbie, or anyone else I missed to assist with sides or dessert.

Regarding plates, plasticware, etc. it seems easiest just to have someone bring it all up and call it good.  Larry is bringing up the plates (Larry, please have enough for all days all people with some extra).  I can donate forks, spoons, and napkins if that helps.  Problem is I'm coming up Tuesday so Larry can I just give you what I have at Alamo and then you just bring it all up?  It just needs to be somewhere made available for each meal and then rounded up that night, put back, and ready for next day's meal.  If someone has a meal that uses bowls, knives, or something different than they'll just need to include it with their meal.

Regarding count of people.  With on the rocks out and Steve J and Roosevelt, I lost track.  I'll await final trailer/hotel stuff to pan out on the Aramark Surprise thread: http://forum.azcrappie.com/index.php/topic,3433.0.html

I think we should put all of this on hold until we find out about our lodging situation.

Time to reopen this discussion. First and foremost, to make it work we will need the blessing of the occupants in the trailer of use of the kitchen. Kelley and Patti are you willing? I'll reach out to Kevin and ask him to talk to his group.

No issues with using the kitchen.

We are still OK with the original arrangements for our night to cook.

Does anyone have a link with a good picture to layout of Bullfrog area. The only thing I found shows Defiance Lodge being over a mile from the ramp area or the Mobile home area and little of it labeled, mostly guessing what's what. Didn't see a nite time parking for boat, trailer and rig.

Just got off the phone with a guy that works at the hotel we are all
at. Parking lot is set up for boat parking with 6-10 plugins at the parking spot.
Restersnt opens at 7am closes at 9pm. No problem with open containers or
poker games.

Cousinlll/FishHawk/Stevert - what are your thoughts on doing meal still.  There are a couple hassles obviously - one being keeping food cool while in hotel room is going to require extra coolers and hassle.  Second, cooking in a single trailer that is apart from the hotel also a hassle.  Also, with 1 trailer we better be sure their oven/stove is in full functional condition.

I'm looking to get a consensus or not on whether we try and do these meals or just cut our losses and do restaurant - or mixture of both.

Currently have response from following:
Kevin/WheatThin/Freshwater - yes o.k. with still doing meal
Sparkchaser - via IM I think he's o.k. as well.  FishMan.... I think o.k. as well
Kelley/Patti - yes o.k. with still doing meal (and using their trailer kitchen each night)

Timbo, I, Mike, and Debbie helping out with fish fry with Timbo and I doing fish fry/potatoes/side and Mike and Debbie assisting with sides and/or dessert

How far again is the hotel from trailer?

Sounds like it could be a tad of a snafu, but we're game for what everybody wants to do.

For what it's worth,,, I will not make the trip,,, however,,,, being a tenter,, I also have this cooler/ice problem. I found a Frigidaire 3.1 cu-ft Frig and "freezer" at Lowe's for $219. It would stand up in my SUV but needs to much room for the doors to swing open.  :dontknow: I think it would be great purchase for the club. Bigger than a cooler, needs no ice, nice freezer compartment. You could use it at all your overnighters. I was told it would run on a 400 watt inverter once it was up to temp.??? However it would void the warrentee.
Have fun!!!

I could go either way on the dinners. If everyone wants to, put me down for chili and cornbread instead of pulled pork.

OK, confirmed cousinlll and FishHawk are still good doing a meal on their day.  Talked with Mike at SCF and he's good bringing 1 side dish for the fish fry on Friday.   We are set on meals and they are up to date at the top of this thread.  I'll post them at the end of this thread in a bit.

Things to keep in mind:
1) Those in hotels may not have a fridge or possibly if they do, it'll be a small one with tiny barely working freezer.  You'll want to prepare for that bringing extra coolers/ice, and possibly use dry ice.  It may even be worth it to buy a cheap chest freezer and split the cost: https://phoenix.craigslist.org/search/sss?query=freezer&sort=rel&srchType=T&search_distance=20&postal=85233&max_price=150.  Start thinking how you're going to keep your food, nightcrawlers, and fish fillets fresh.
2) Larry is bringing one small table and some Chinet dinner platters.  I was going to supply plates, napkins, forks, and spoons as well for the week, however I'm not getting there until Tuesday.  <b>Can someone help Larry and bring forks, spoons, and napkins for Sun-Tue meals?</b>  I'll supply the rest for Wed-Fri meals.
3) Bring your own chairs to the trailer where we'll eat nightly.  I don't know what seating situation is like there.
4) We could probably use another table to eat at.  I don't have pictures of the trailer area outside but in case there is no seating area it might be good to have another table we can all sit at.  <b>Anyone have an additional one to bring that we can use all week?</b>
5) Friday fish fry: Kelley is bringing extra cast iron fry pan for the fish fry.   Mike and Debbie assisting bringing potato salad or cole slaw.  Matt/Timbo frying fish and potatoes/fries.  Cousinlll bringing crock pot baked beans.  Everyone is responsible for saving walleye cleaned fillets provided to me Thursday night or Friday by 5-ish for use in the fish fry.

Meals are set for 7pm.  We can discuss during the week if a change to that time is desired especially for the final night's fish fry.  Majority vote needed. Please make sure and coordinate with Kelley/Patti on getting access to the trailer (keep it unlocked?).

OK, too much hassle trying to coordinate separate people supplying plates, napkins, forks, etc.  So this year, each group doing a meal should supply plates, napkins, forks, etc. for their meal for the 20-25 people that will be eating.  I updated the top of this thread and here's the final meal plan:

Cousinlll and Stevert are both bringing an extra folding table.

This thread (http://forum.azcrappie.com/index.php/topic,3239.30.html) says there are 20 people - Timbo and I are arriving Tuesday for dinner so only 18 to feed Sunday and Monday.
