Title: Spring 2024 Lake Powell Trip - My Advanced Planning Opinions
Post by: cousinlll on July 22, 2023, 01:47 PM
Yes, I know it's freakin late July but........

Something I've been thinking about lately given the encouraging news about the lake's water level, which by the way has leveled off lately at 3582'  https://lakepowell.water-data.com/   is the possibility of a spring trip next year.  Without knowing the BOR's future plans (adding water to Lake Mead as an example) I would like to think that we have a pretty good chance of accessing the lake this spring.  At least a better chance at Bullfrog given the recent boat ramp extension, which appears to be around 50' above minimum safe usage

How long has it been since there has been good ramp access at the north end of the lake? A year or two?  I'm thinking that there are a lot of people, just like us, that are jonesing for a trip to Lake Powell.  And I'm assuming there will be a high demand for the already limited supply of available lodging.

So what I'm suggesting is that we as a group, at least start talking about this trip and maybe begin a little trip planning.  I for one, wouldn't be opposed to booking 3 Bullfrog Family Units sooner rather than later.

Yes, I understand that this trip is quite a few months away, LOL.  And it's hard for some to plan this far out. But I'd hate to miss this trip on our chosen date(s) that works for the majority because of being late to the dinner table.

With that being said, couple points to ponder:

Two reasons I mentioned Bullfrog rather than Halls Crossing

First - I checked for Family Unit availability on the Lake Powell Resorts website and Bullfrog was the only site listed.  Halls crossing was not.  Well, Hite Family Units were listed for some reason, but we all know that's not a reality?  And if we want to go to Bullfrog, these units I'm assuming will go fast.  I was too lazy to call & ask about why Halls Crossing Family Units were not listed as an option.

Second - With the Bullfrog ramp extension it's my opinion that will give us a whole lot more options as to ramp vs shore launch not to mention better odds given whatever happens with the water level.

Trip Schedule Conflict - For those that participate in the National Crappie League of Arizona Trail the championship tournament appears to be at Alamo Lake on April 26th thru 28th 2024.

I did do pricing for a trip Saturday to Saturday (7 nights) for a late April 2024 trip Bullfrog Family Units and without any discounts - one family unit price came to $2599.24 including tax & fees.  I do not remember what previous years $$ amount were.

Enough of my Blah Blah Blah........  waiting to hear thoughts & comments from those interested in this trip.

I'm interested.  I'm inquiring with Timbo, Alan, and Tom menrats regarding the trip to see if they are interested, e.g. full week, half week, etc.  I'm in need of that dish rag bite and walleyes all day long.

Regarding NCL championship, assuming it is Sat-Sun April 27-28, then would that mean you're planning on this Powell trip being Sat May 5 through Sat May 11?

Replying to this to bump it up. I think I'm close to making a call to make a reservation. I think I can work some discounts that I have gotten in the past. So let's review numbers before I call. Currently we have 13 for sure. Anyone else. I'll be making the reservation this weekend. Need 2 more to fill the bill of 5 trailers. Here is who I have. Reservations will be at Bullfrog units. I don't want to wait for lake changes, and I think we shouldn't waste our time at Halls, as the lake is already on the down.

Unfortunately I'm out as I'll be wearing a crazy suit watching the ponies run at Churchill Downs for the 150th running of the Derby.

I've made the reservations of 5 trailers. Currently we have 13 people confirmed. So we have 2 spots open. I'll keep in touch with the people going via text.

If and I mean IF the Derby doesn't work out I'd be down to travel.  I'd have to fly in the day before and stay with someone and then drive up with them.  That is assuming that there is an open bunk at the time the decision needs to be made.  I'll be keeping this on the back burner as a low simmer........
