Title: Alamo Lake - Jan 9-11
Post by: OneBlade on December 23, 2025, 06:56 AM
I had planned on camping/fishing Alamo Lake this coming weekend Dec 28-30, but a cold front has postponed those plans.  I updated my reservation to be Jan 9-11 and will be in site C7.  You can modify AZ State Park reservations to a new date with no fee charged even if the original reservation is just days away.  I'll confirm if the trip is really happening on the week of given weather conditions that week.  Book a site - hope to see you there: https://azstateparks.com/reserve/#alamo-lake/camping

Also, the picture I includes is of Roosevelt Lake my mom painted.  Pretty sweet huh?  I'm going to see if she can paint a few more crappie pictures - maybe a future raffle prize?

That would be a first choice for me as a raffle winner

OK, my wife and I headed up Friday afternoon and fished Alamo Saturday.  Weather was cold but no wind up until 10-11am-ish it picked up and got annoying. We fished around the buoy line and traveled from there to opposite the dam whatever direction that is and cast to 1s and 2s crappie that were 10-20 ft down (in 30 foot of water).  If we got boat positioned well, and got an accurate cast, and reeled in properly to get that jig in front of the fish, we caught 'em.  I'm still working on all of that but was good to see some moderate success on catching crappie that way.  Most of our fish were 1.5lbs or less but did hear of a few folks catching a couple 2lb-ers.  We released all of our fish as we have plenty in the freezer plus the crappie there are part of a low/no consumption warning for mercury so we tend to limit eating those to SCF/BHCC.  Fish caught on single and double jig setup with swivel weight above. I also had a couple long rods with double rig minnows off the back sides but they did nothing.
