Some interesting reading from Wayne's Words about Wayne's gill net survey he did on Lake Powell & his follow up report.  If you take the time to read it I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts.....

Very True!!  I wish our AZ G&F would have "Go To Person(s)" that would promote our lakes like he does & is as open with/for questions & comments in an open forum as he does.

Larry, when you ask to share thoughts.. All I can think of is how the stripers are the only thing that keep gizzard shad in check at Powell.. And how there are no stripers in Roosevelt.. And how terrible the situation is. Sorry to be a downer..

And I too wish we had someone like Wayne dedicated to our lakes. You wouldn't think it would be that hard for the GF to put out a comprehensive report every few years similar to this one.. The only information I see out there publicly needs to be sifted through in the weekly fishing reports. A little info here and there at most..

Yep, I always like to hear people's opinion on things.....

I too found it interesting on how the Gizzard Shad population seemed to decrease & their relationship to the Striper population.

It also seemed to me he's saying that Walleye will be less prevalent & our search for fish will be more work this spring.  They'll still be there but maybe not in all the areas we caught them last year forcing us to cover more water?  I do think, however, that given the group we have going & the sharing of information that's been the norm for the group it won't take long for us to find them.  Brian made the trip to Good Hope Bay in a previous year but, if I remember correctly, was his opinion at that time going uptake that far wasn't necessary to find equal amount of fish.  Given Wayne's comments, maybe this year traveling to Good Hope Bay might be more of a viable option & something we might plan for fuel wise if unable to locate good schools of fish locally??

But with Wayne optimistic about next years fishing gives me confidence that we'll catch fish........

I cannot attend Powell so sorry my opinion may be irrelevant this year but I'd like to share a quick thought.

I think his walleye prediction holds the most error, not necessarily saying his wrong. But, he said himself that the survey doesn't represent threadfin population very well and walleye are dependent on threadfin forage.. I know there are some other factors with the vegetative and cover components but IMO walleye and threadfin could be schooling anywhere together in catchable quantities. Also, does his report make Danny, Bobby, Harry, Joey and all their brothers go to GHB too?

Just a thought. But Larry like you said, with this group of guys... You're going to catch em.

Good points Shea!  Agree that just like Threadfin & Crappie, his gill net survey isn't necessarily accurate when it comes to Walleye.  We will certainly find out!
