A few years ago the breakaway cable was pulled off my boat trailer. Everyone has always told me it's super easy to fix and I've even looked it up... everything they explain doesn't come close to what my trailer looks like.

I contacted a trailer company this week to see if they could replace the cable for me (or be kind enough to show me) and they were willing until they found out I had a surge brake system. Performance Marine already told me they won't work on trailers so I really have no idea where to go.

My boat is a 21' 2001 Triton SF and is on the trailer it came with. Does anyone have experience replacing the breakaway cable on a trailer with surge brakes or know of a trailer repair shop that will work on them?

Thanks!

I live in North Phoenix... but I'm just about willing to take this thing anywhere to get the brakes finally working on this thing.

Louis, was the trailer made by Triton or if not, what brand?  Look at your trailer or maybe call Triton to ask about your trailer surge brake manufacturer  & parts availability.

If it's like my Ranger, for example, Ranger made the trailer but it's components were made by others.  My surge brakes along with spindle/hub systems were made by Tie Down Engineering.  Tie Down website has PDF manuals available for download.

Maybe take some pics & we'll try to help you out.....

I recommend Martin Marine on Broadway in Mesa. They rebuilt my surge brake system. Say hi to Mike for me. 480-898-1800.

You may try Kurt at the Auto Shop down town Phoenix. He's a bass fisherman, other than that hes a good guy. MRBASS on the the Zone I think.

auto safety house at 27th and buckeye is the best in town with parts and repairs, take a couple pictures with your smart phone and then go down and see them, I have had bastard parts (wheel seal) and other parts before and they are great at putting in the extra effort to find the parts. They also do repairs on trailers but I am guessing it would be something you could do, also Arizona axle over in Glendale does good work but is not much of a talker as far as helping with do it yourself projects.
