I agree, let em spawn then go get em. In Texas I would gig flounder throughout the night. I was allowed 1 limit in hand and when midnight rolled in I was allowed to have a double limit in hand.

My bad,, I overlooked the fact that some lakes have no limit  The walleye (WI) is a statewide reg.

It is for the lake that you are fishing. Don't over think it. It is for the honor system unless you get caught saying that you have to many at home. That also would depend on from what lake what the limits are.
