Any updates or fishing reports from the north?

Tweeder

I heard Dave and Tommy got 13 eyes yesterday on a short day, bunch or smallies and few stripers and cats.

I've only heard from Tommy and Dave via Facebook. They are figuring out the lake as it's down 40 foot or something like that.  Alan, Timbo, and I headed up today. Hope weather treats us well.

Good luck Matt and Timbo and the rest.  Safe travels.

Word on Facebook (From Matt himself) is that his rear driver side axle snapped in Munds Park. I'm sure he'll chime in here sometime today, but his trip has been delayed.

In the meantime, here are some of Dave's and Tommy's catches from 5/5 & 5/6

Damn, snapped axle? not like you run over to O'reilly auto and pick up one? hope things work out. Nice fish Dave's crew caught.

Yes broken axle. Luckily we got pulled over to the side before a wheel and half axle fell off. Timbo and Alan's wives drove up another truck and vehicle so we still made it to Powell. Pretty awesome of them.

Fishing is much tougher than previous years. Last year we had to go up to Good Hope Bay to find dirty water. I haven't been up there yet but heard it was really stained up there and fishing isn't much better up there anyway.  Brian's wall is producing as is right out front Halls Crossing ramp. Got rained on today a little bit weather is still pretty good.

Glad you made it to the lake Matt, and safely got off the road before things fell apart. When you get back from Powell I would like to hear the story on the axle that is not something that happens very often to any truck model? Good luck with fishing.

Tommy and I ended up with 83 eyes for the trip. Not sure of the numbers on other species. Great trip weather wise. As usual, great food and company. What a great place to fish.

Trip turned out well once we got up there.  Last year, we found all of the typical canyons we went too were too clear and heading up 30 miles to Good Hope Bay was where the water was dirtier and more fish were being caught.  This year, it was different.  Water on the main channel was dirty but cleaner in the normal canyons.  But not as many fish were being caught in the canyons - perhaps element of water clarity or water temp (65+ degrees).  Earlier in the week some boats headed up to Good Hope Bay but weren't getting the numbers like last year.  It seemed like points off of the main channel worked best.  We fished canyons the first day and didn't do very well.  2nd day we fished Brian's wall and did better.  Last day we fished Lois and Jerry's area right outside of the Halls Crossing ramp and did very well.  It's a point that extends out you can catch anything and everything there - hence the couple pictures one of some sort of orange catfish (anyone know what type of fish that really is?). The last day saved us giving enough fillets to offset the cost of new rear axle, springs, and shocks.  I've included those pictures.

Oh and food was great.  We opted for skipping the fish fry and eating leftovers on Friday.  That was really good I got a chance to have leftovers of the cavatini, chicken enchiladas, scalloped potatoes and ham, and tacos.

Thanks to Alan and Timbo's wives for bailing us out of truck hell in Flagstaff and for the folks up at Powell who were generous in their tips on where they've been catching (and where they've not been catching).  Since we come up 3 days late and only have 3 days to fish, getting some tips on what's working and what's not is vital to us getting on some fish and not wasting time in already covered areas.  Everyone I spoke to was really helpful so thanks.
